For a satisfactory step-bending result, it is necessary to perform certain calculations that require knowledge of several key parameters related to the bending process – these include:
- Arc length – the distance between the ends of the curved section of the sheet, measured along the inner side of the bend;
- Number of bends – the total number of bends required to achieve the desired bending radius; the greater the number of bends, the smaller the angle of each individual bend, resulting in a smoother curve;
- Distance between bends – the spacing between successive bends made during the process.
Although the entire step-bending process may seem complex, CORMAK machines and software are now advanced enough to automate most operations, relieving the operator of many tasks.
