Raytools ceramic body

Raytools ceramic body provides electrical and thermal insulation between the nozzle and the cutting head, stabilising the height sensor and protecting the optics from overheating and molten spatter. A properly matched ceramic body increases cutting consistency, improves edge quality and reduces the risk of unplanned downtime.

The ceramic body is a key structural and insulating element in Raytools cutting heads. It functions as a dielectric component in the capacitive height-sensing circuit, allowing the head to maintain the correct distance from the material and ensuring that the laser beam and assist gas perform in optimal conditions. At the same time, the ceramic material thermally and mechanically separates the nozzle from the head, reducing heat transfer and protecting sensitive optical parts. The result is a stable piercing and cutting process, smoother edges and fewer parameter adjustments during extended production runs.

When selecting a ceramic body, always check compatibility with the Raytools head model as well as the diameter and type of nozzle being used. Variations in thread, height and seat geometry directly affect nozzle positioning, the height sensor operation and gas flow. Correct part matching guarantees consistent quality and component protection — an incompatible part can cause sensor errors, arc instability or excessive heating near the protective lens.

Due to their working environment, ceramic bodies are considered consumable components. Indications for replacement include cracks, chipping, discolouration from overheating, contamination of the thread or looseness in the nozzle mount. Regular inspection, cleaning of the nozzle area and maintaining gas-seal integrity help to prevent leaks, improve gas stream stability and extend the service life of both the cutting head and the optical system. For high-power cutting or materials producing heavy spatter, keeping a spare set of ceramic bodies ensures uninterrupted production.
