Automatic adjustment of backgauge travel (X axis) and R axis (manual option*). The R axis facilitates bending of larger radii, e.g. by step bending system.

To achieve a satisfactory result of step bending, certain calculations are necessary, requiring knowledge of several key parameters related to the bending process – these are:
- Arc length – the distance between the ends of the curved section of the sheet measured on the inner side of the bend;
- Number of bends – the number of single bends required to achieve a sheet with a specific radius; the higher the number of bends, the smaller the individual bend angle and the smoother the curve;
- Distance between bends – the distance between each successive bend performed during the process.
Although the entire step bending process may seem quite complex, CORMAK machines and software are now advanced enough to fully support the operator in many areas.

Follower supports with servomotors enable bending of large sheets which, during the bending moment, rise together with the workpiece to prevent deformation and maintain the required angle.

Selection of die and punch
The correct selection of tooling, i.e. die and punch, is essential to achieve the desired bending result.
