For a satisfactory step-bending result, it is necessary to perform certain calculations requiring knowledge of key parameters related to the bending process, such as:
- Arc length – the distance between the ends of the curved part of the sheet measured along the inner side of the bend;
- Number of bends – the number of individual bends required to form the desired radius; the higher the number of bends, the smaller the individual bending angle and the smoother the arc;
- Distance between bends – the spacing between each successive bend in the process.
Although the step-bending process may seem complex, CORMAK machines and software are advanced enough to handle most of these calculations automatically, relieving the operator of much of the work.
